ABOUT SHEIN FOUNDATION
The SHEIN Foundation is a non-profit organization which aims to foster more inclusive and sustainable communities in places where SHEIN operates.
The SHEIN Foundation is SHEIN’s philanthropic arm dedicated to fostering more inclusive and sustainable growth in the communities that SHEIN engages with across its global footprint. Through the programmes it supports, the SHEIN Foundation embodies the brand’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and meaningful global impact.
Mission and Vision
As SHEIN’s philanthropic arm, the SHEIN Foundation reinforces and amplifies SHEIN’s commitment to empower the communities we reach and give back to the global community.
Mission: To empower individuals, organizations, and communities with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to build more inclusive communities and sustainable ecosystems. Through innovation and collective action, we aim to improve lives in the communities we reach and catalyze positive change towards a circular fashion industry.
Vision: A world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, where the natural world is respected and protected, and where the fashion industry is inclusive, sustainable and accessible to all.
FOCUS AREAS
Improving Lives in Communities
Our goal is to help foster a more inclusive and accessible society, where everyone can contribute meaningfully and reach their full potential. Centring our efforts on women, young people and the underserved communities, we hope to empower individuals and communities to overcome systemic challenges and reshape societal norms.
Protecting Biodiversity
We recognise the threats from climate change and habitat loss. We hope to contribute to the safeguarding of our natural capital for current and future generations. By protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial and marine ecosystems, we hope to secure a better future for all.
Advancing Sustainable Change
Redefining how we produce and consume requires a collaborative effort across the whole value chain. By supporting research and innovation, and the scaling of environmental and social strategies and solutions, we believe that we can transform the fashion industry through collective action, and contribute to the transition to a more sustainable and circular fashion industry.
Key Grants and Donations by SHEIN Foundation
Africa Collect Textiles Foundation
The SHEIN Foundation has committed €5 million (US$5.30 million) to the Africa Collect Textiles (ACT) Foundation, the charitable arm of Africa Collect Textiles (ACT), a social enterprise that has developed a used textiles collection and recycling pilot in Kenya. The funds will be used to support ACT Foundation’s activities to promote textile donation and post-consumer textile recycling in Kenya and the broader African region, which includes:
- Installation of convenient and accessible network of drop-off points for members of the public to donate their used clothing
- Creation of new jobs such as collectors, sorters, and artisans who will upcycle textile waste into new products, with a focus on hiring youth and women from vulnerable communities.
- Building of recycling infrastructure to process larger volumes of textile waste.
- Promotion of online and offline outreach programs for communities, such as upcycling workshops, lectures, and neighbourhood collection drives.
PAST GRANTS AND DONATIONS BY SHEIN
Over the past few years, SHEIN’s philanthropic commitments have supported causes and organisations that address social and environmental issues. Under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Fund, SHEIN has also funded causes that address global textile waste management and further the development of a circular economy. For example, its initial grantee, The Or Foundation, supports communities around the Kantamanto Market in Accra, Ghana, one of the world’s largest secondhand clothing markets. For more information on SHEIN’s past grants under the EPR Fund, see here.
Examples of other grants and commitments made by SHEIN include:
- In 2022, SHEIN launched the EPR Fund, and has since made grants under the EPR Fund to the Or Foundation and the UnTours Foundation.
- In 2023, SHEIN pledged a total of S$8.6 million to empower communities and advance opportunities for education in Singapore and beyond, with four Memoranda of Understanding signed between SHEIN and four educational institutions and non-profit organizations.
- In 2024, SHEIN donated US$430,000 to six local Dress for Success (DFS) affiliates, across the US, UK, Italy and Singapore. DFS is a not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing professional clothing and styling, interview coaching and ongoing support once they rejoin the workplace.
