SHEIN launches two new capsule collections with NAFA

In support of the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) and Dress for Success Singapore (DFSS)

Global fashion and lifestyle online retailer SHEIN announced two new capsule collections created in collaboration with students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), University of the Arts Singapore (UAS). To advance the theme of inclusive fashion, the NAFA students were asked to conceptualise and design collections to celebrate and empower the women served by SHEIN’s social impact partners, Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF), and Dress for Success Singapore (DFSS).

The collections mark the second year that SHEIN has mentored final-year students from NAFA – Singapore’s pioneer arts education institution. In 2023, a limited edition SHEIN X NAFA capsule collection was launched in celebration of Singapore’s 58th National Day.

This year, three groups consisting of 11 NAFA final-year students from the Diploma in Fashion Business and Management worked to create two outfits for each capsule collection, with feedback from BCF and DFSS and mentorship from SHEIN on design wearability, material selection and production feasibility. Following rounds of rigorous selection, SHEIN shortlisted four outfits with commercial potential to be manufactured and made available for sale on SHEIN’s mobile app and website globally.

In line with SHEIN’s social impact and sustainability strategy, the company has expanded its social impact programmes, focusing on creating opportunities for women, youth, and underserved communities to access their full potential. Both collections aim to raise awareness for the work of SHEIN’s social impact partners and the needs of the clients they serve, while showcasing NAFA students’ creativity and technical skills to tailor their creations accordingly to individuals’ backgrounds and lifestyles.

SHEIN X NAFA X BCF

Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) is a social service agency in Singapore that promotes early detection of breast cancer and supports the breast cancer community. This three-way collaboration between SHEIN, BCF and NAFA students aims to celebrate the courage and resilience of breast cancer survivors, while promoting breast cancer awareness amongst women of all ages and for men, to keep in mind the women in their lives.

BCF Design 1: Featuring designs that echo the art of kintsugi and the delicate patterns of butterfly wings, One Ribbon at a Time celebrates the beauty of healing and imperfection, as well as honours the strength of those affected by breast cancer.

BCF Design 2: Still Woman is inspired by the courage of women who have undergone breast cancer surgery. Featuring bold elements like large ribbons and shirring details, the collection celebrates body positivity and encourages hope, self-love and acceptance of changed bodies.

SHEIN X NAFA X DFSS

Dress for Success Singapore (DFSS) empowers women to achieve economic independence by offering a supportive network, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in both work and life. This three-way collaboration between SHEIN, DFSS and NAFA students aims to provide professional yet affordable outfits to help DFSS clients radiate confidence and project their best selves, whether in a job interview or their daily lives.

DFSS Designs 1 & 2: Aegean Serenity is a collection inspired by the sea, featuring calming shades of blue and beige. Designed to transition seamlessly from work to off-work, it offers versatile styles to empower busy mothers and working women in feeling confident as they navigate the daily hustle of work, errands and family responsibilities.
