SHEIN Commits to Bolstering Singapore Organisations’ Impact with Landmark S$8.6 Million Donation

SINGAPORE, 15 September 2023 – SHEIN, the global integrated online marketplace for fashion, beauty and lifestyle products, today pledged a total of S$8,675,000.00 for the intended purpose of empowering communities and advancing opportunities for education in Singapore and beyond. This donation augments the Equitable Empowerment pillar of SHEIN’s ESG roadmap, evoluSHEIN, and amplifies the impact of collective efforts to create a more desirable and sustainable future that is accessible to all.

To that end, four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between SHEIN and the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), SG Her Empowerment (SHE), and Access Singapore, demonstrating SHEIN’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and SHEIN’s mission to make a positive and lasting impact on the communities it serves.

Funds will go towards the following:

  1. S$5 million endowment funding to the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS)

SHEIN has pledged a S$5 million endowment funding to UAS, the country’s first Government-supported private arts university, reflecting its strong commitment to nurturing the next generation of creatives. Income from the endowment will be disbursed in the form of bursaries to help defray a portion of the tuition fees and living expenses of UAS students from lower income households, thereby ensuring that these students are not denied opportunities. Each year, up to 35 bursaries, each valued at S$5,000, will be awarded to eligible students.

In addition, SHEIN is open to opportunities such as job attachments, mentorships and employment opportunities after graduation to these bursary recipients.

  1. S$2 million pledge to the Temasek Trust’s Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA) initiative

SHEIN has pledged S$2 million to the PAA initiative, dedicated to catalysing collaborative philanthropy in Asia through multi-sector partnerships. SHEIN’s contributions will fund projects related to PAA’s focus areas of Holistic & Inclusive Education, and Climate & Nature. Through the PAA platform, SHEIN will be able to pool resources and capabilities for amplified impact, leveraging the alliance’s global public, private and philanthropic member network to accelerate positive change in Asia from Singapore.

  1. S$1 million donation to support 42SG programme by Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)

SHEIN is furthering its dedication to education by providing a S$1 million donation to SUTD in support of its 42SG programme. The donation will be used to support the set-up and running of the programme, which supports digital upskilling for lifelong learners.

SHEIN will continue to engage with SUTD to identify new areas of collaboration, such as internship placements and workshops, to facilitate learning and professional development.

  1. S$400,000 donation to Access Singapore

SHEIN announced a two-year collaboration with Access Singapore, a social mobility non-profit organisation, to support the Access Fellowship Programme (AFP) – a holistic programme that provides tertiary students from lower income households with mentorship and developmental opportunities to build career readiness.

SHEIN committed SS$400,000 to fund AFP, which will benefit 150 students from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), polytechnics, and Autonomous Universities (AUs) students each year in 2024 and 2025. Run by Access Singapore, the AFP is a six-month programme which allows beneficiaries to undergo a series of masterclasses and complete a final capstone project. The masterclasses and capstone project aim to develop core skills such as career planning, branding and marketing, problem solving, project management and communication.

  1. S$275,000 donation to SG Her Empowerment (SHE)

SHEIN has renewed its partnership with SHE, an organisation dedicated to empowering women and promoting gender equality, with a further S$275,000 donation to SHE to further its mission of empowering women to achieve their full potential. The donation will go towards a year-long SHEIN X SHE female empowerment campaign, as well as operational expenses.

In 2022, SHEIN signed on as SHE’s first corporate partner with a S$200,000 donation.

“SHEIN is deeply commited to empowering communities we reach. Through our investment in these organisations, we hope to contribute to the growth and prosperity of Singapore and beyond, thereby fostering a more inclusive global society,” said Leonard Lin, Head of Public Affairs and General Manager of Singapore.

“Aligned with our motto of making the beauty of fashion accessible to all, we hope that the donation strengthens the accessibility of opportunities to our beneficiaries,” he continued.
